"Beyond Me"

One night I dreamt a terrible dream --
I dreamt that you were leaving me
To go to the United States to study.
Not that there's anything wrong
With studying overseas
But I was filled with panic
At the thought of being left behind
That I could not sleep but woke with tears.

The next night I dreamt that you had gone
I was so distraught
I tried to run after you
But I couldn't reach you,
No matter how hard I tried
It was as though I had reached
The limit of my leash.
I strained and pulled
But the chain was holding me back.
