"When my brother died"

When my brother died
I cried no tears, I grieved with no one,
Attended no funeral, and showed no remorse.

When my brother died
I did not even wear black, except for my head,
which naturally has black hair. No mourning gear,
no makeup on, just a suit of casual clothes.

When my brother died
Viva La Vida was playing in the car
And as we drove to church I smiled at
the spray paint graffiti on the car next to me,
Given to the driver by her boyfriend.

When my brother died
I laughed at jokes, and made the kids at
church smile at my charismatic acting.
After lunch I went to a movie wth my friends.

When my brother died
I thought of all that I'd done wrong
As I remembered that He died my death
To free me from guilt I brought on myself.

When my brother died,
I was grateful of His sacrifice
on the cross so long ago,
And I celebrated His love for me.
